About the Scholarship

The 2025 Scholarship Essay Contest invites North Carolina high school seniors to share their perspectives on justice and their visions for fostering a more equitable world. This initiative aims to support students who demonstrate a passion for social change and a commitment to higher education.

Essay Prompt

Applicants are asked to submit a 400–600-word essay addressing the following question:

“What does justice mean to you, and how do you see yourself contributing to a more just society?”

We encourage students to reflect on personal experiences, societal observations, and future aspirations in their responses.

Prizes

Two outstanding essays will be selected by our scholarship committee:

  • First Place: $2,000
  • Second Place: $1,000

The awarded funds are intended to assist with educational expenses as students embark on their college journeys.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a resident of North Carolina
  • Be a high school senior
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Submit the essay electronically through our designated platform
  • Provide parental consent if under 18 years of age

Important Dates

  • Submissions Open: January 3, 2025
  • Submission Deadline: May 1, 2025
  • Winners Announced: May 30, 2025

All entries will be evaluated based on originality, clarity, and the strength of the applicant’s vision for promoting justice.

Essays must be submitted electronically through our scholarship application platform. Please ensure that your submission is original and free from plagiarism, as any plagiarized content will result in disqualification.

By participating, applicants grant Younce, Vtipil, Baznik & Banks, P.A. the rights to publish and promote the submitted essays, as well as permission to use the winners’ names, biographical information, and photographs for marketing purposes.
